Accuracy and efficiency
You will benefit from purchasing recorders specifically designed to record conferences. See our Recommended Equipment page. Participants should try and maintain a quiet atmosphere. Introducing yourself when you speak will be of benefit. Participants should be provided with a microphone in order that their speech is clearly heard and easily transcribed. Participants should turn off their mobile phones to avoid picking up unwanted signals by the microphone. We recommend that you record in digital format as these files can be uploaded straight away to Fingertips to transcribe. Digital recorders that a specifically for conferences are the ones to go for. If however you have analogue equipment then this can be transcribed as well. Mini discs recorders produce a high quality recording, but these do have to be recorded first into the PC, so this option will cost a bit more.
Focus Group transcriptions may require intelligent verbatim transcription but we will discuss your requirements with you.
Your dictation will be allocated to only experienced transcriptionists in this field ensuring an efficient, accurate and professional focus group transcript. If words are inaudible we will type what we thought you said and highlight it in red with the time of the dictation marked alongside it, or if we cannot make out what was said at all we will put asterix with the time marked in red alongside it. You can listen to your dictations through Olympus Lite which is a free program where you can easily track parts of your dictation that you want to check. Go to <http://www.olympus.co.uk/consumer/2590_4694.htm> and go to the bottom of the page to download it. Note this will only play DSS and WAV.
If you work is from a tape or mini disc, the dictation is recorded onto a PC and saved as an MP3 file. You can download this dictation and listen to it through Express Scribe. This is a free program, and you can easily track parts of the voice file to parts that you want to check, if need be. Go to <http://www.nch.com.au/scribe>.
